The Farm of Hope Father Antonio Henrique Pereira, in Jaboatão dos Guararapes, Pernambuco, had a party day this Sunday (03 / 11), when he performed with the theater, snack, bingo and Eucharistic celebration the Feast of St. Francis.
Welcoming and family members participated in the day's activities, together with hundreds of faithful who came from various parishes of the Archdiocese of Olinda and Recife.
“We were happy with the arrival of so many people who accepted the invitation to share this very important party for us,” said seminarian Edson André Ramos, who is the coordinator of the Finance. Andrew explains that the holiness of Francis of Assisi is an example for the welcomed: a young man born in a rich family, in his conversion abandoned material goods and found true happiness in serving others. "Francis shows drug addicts that living the Gospel is the way to be eternally happy - not drugs that give temporary pleasure and often promote removal from the family and insertion in crime," said the coordinator.
The archbishop of Olinda and Recife, Dom Fernando Saburido, went to the farm, talked with the welcome and the missionaries and gave a presentation about the life of San Francisco, presented by the hosts themselves at the farm. In an exciting testimony, Professor Claudio Monteiro, from the University of Pernambuco, said he fully relies on the Charism of Hope. “I was welcomed into a unit of the farm, I regained my dignity, I returned to my profession, and for ten years I am a collaborator of the farm with great joy,” said the professor. And he completed his testimony with a phrase that was widely applauded: "Hope has a name: God among us."
Young Jose Adrian, 18, told a harsh life story where drugs and violence were constant. After being hit by firearm shots on two occasions, he decided to undergo treatment at Father Antonio Henrique's Farm of Hope. “I came here in January and I can already say that I am happy to serve my brother on a daily basis, to work here, to know and share God's Word,” said the young man.
Dom Fernando presided at the Eucharistic celebration after the testimonies. He did not hide the joy of being among friends at the Farm and asked that, when referring to the Farm of Hope located in Jaboatao, use the name "Farm of Hope Father Antonio Henrique Pereira". According to the archbishop, the name was not given by chance, but to honor the young priest who was murdered 50 years ago. “Father Henrique was a very important person for our Archdiocese, fought hard for his youth at the time of Dom Helder, and died serving the neediest,” he said.
After the celebration, the third house of the project was inaugurated, which will receive more 18 young people for treatment. To complete the farm project, however, the chapel still needs to be built at the entrance of the land. “We have resources for the beginning of the work, but we are waiting for help from entrepreneurs to complete it, relying on divine providence to make everything work,” said coordinator André Ramos. "The farm is a reality born from the dream of Dom Fernando and today many families could also dream again because they received back their children and their husbands for healthy living at home," he added.
